Hear it. Spell it. Hit it.

  1. Hear the word

The game reads out a clue sentence, then the word. Tap Hear Word to listen again.

  2. Tap the letters

Scrambled letter tiles go into the slots, one for each letter in the word.

  3. Strike the monster

A right answer lands a hit, and every correct word charges your hero’s special power.

Try a round on this page. In the app, the word is read aloud too.

Three heroes, three kinds of help

Every hero can spell every word. The character class changes how the game helps the child to learn.

  • Fighter

Keeps one correct letter in place after a wrong guess.

Power: Mighty Blow, a heavy strike worth two hits.

  • Wizard

Makes vowel teams glow, so ai, ee and oa stand out.

Power: Zap, which snaps one correct letter into place.

  • Ranger

Makes silent letters shine, like the k in knight.

Power: Called Shot, which picks out the trickiest word to spell - and instantly defeats the monster if it's spelled correctly.

Each power charges after three correct answers.

Earn gold, hatch pets, dress up

Fifty monsters and fifty quests to get through. Boss fights can drop an egg that hatches into one of twenty pets, and gold from battles buys cosmetic character upgrades - tails, hats, colours and weapon looks. You have to earn the gold to spend - it can't be bought.

No ads, no accounts, no tracking

Heroes live on the device they were made on. Nothing leaves the device unless a grown-up chooses to back up to their own Google Drive, and even then it goes into a hidden folder that only this game can open. If you choose to buy the premium tier, data only goes to Apple or Google.

There's no advertising, no analytics, no microtransactions, and no chat or social features. Privacy and safety for your child are at the heart of the design of the application.
